The thing about the winter is that it can get so cold that we don’t want to leave the house unless we absolutely have to. We’ll leave it to go to work, and we’ll leave it to go out on the town with the girls, wearing backless dresses, because who cares how cold it is, we’re going to have fun!
We’ll even consider heading out for cold weather dates if the guy is, like, super hot. If he charms us with his wit, intelligence and rugged good looks, we can definitely be coaxed out of our duvet. You know, just for him. Otherwise, he can wait until the spring, right girls?
But then comes the question: What do you even do on a cold weasther date? You can’t go to the beach or enjoy a picnic at the park? So, what can you do now that he’s managed to convince you to leave the warmth of your house?
Let’s take a look at 10 creative ideas for cold weather dates.
Pretend You’re Snowed In
There is a classic episode of The Simpsons where Homer and his boss Mr Burns are snowed in together. They both hate each other, and they eventually try to kill one another.
But when you and your date pretend you’re snowed in together, things will be a lot more fun, we promise! You could make up stories about how you might be trapped here for a long time, and it gives you a great excuse to turn up the fire, curl up and enjoy your time together. Play some games, watching some movies and really get to know each other.
Take A Cooking Class
Taking a cooking class together is a great way to spend a date at any time of the year, but it’s especially great during the winter time because you get to learn how to make some real winter warmers, such as soups and stews.
You can either just do a one-time class, or you can book for a series of classes. It all depends how well you anticipate the date going! You can learn how to make sushi, pasta – anything you like!
Just make sure you don’t get egg on his brand new shirt.
Board Game Night
It’s frosty outside, so there’s only one thing to do: Stay in with some drinks and play a few ace board games!
There are many board games you two can play together. You could dust down the old favourites, such as Monopoly and Scrabble, or you could buy a totally new one and both learn it together as you go along.
You have to create sacrifices, of course. Whoever loses has to make a forfeit.
It’s probably best that you don’t demand he loses an item of clothing each time you beat him. You don’t want the poor chap to freeze.
Listen To Records
Maybe you don’t even want to leave your cave because it’s just so darn cold outside. So why not invite him round to listen to some music?
This sounds like a date for teenagers, but it doesn’t matter; a night of easy listening by the fireside while snowflakes gently fall from the sky outside never gets old. Pick the right records and you might have the night of your life here.
Go Ice Skating
Girls probably love ice skating more than guys, but we’re pretty sure he’ll be up for showing how brave he is on the ice in the winter.
Ice skating really is the romantic seasonal date to top them all. You can grab a coffee and skate around your local ice-rink, and if it appears that you’re going to take a tumble, he’ll courageously step in and save you from falling.
You could even dare him to spin around on his head. If he’s trying to impress you, he might just go for it.
Cameras and ambulance on speed-dial at the ready.
Have A Snowball Fight
There is a great scene in the Bull Murray Groundhog Day where Bill and Andie McDowell pretty much fall in love during a nighttime snowball fight.
And, hey, this could be you, too! If it happens to be snowing when you head outdoors for your date, why not trick him into a playful snowball fight? You’ll both have a ball of a time! Get it?
Sorry. Blame the winter, it makes all the dreadful puns come out.
Providing you can find a fairly local indoor ski-ing centre, this could turn out to be the date of all dates. Ski-ing is definitely very wintry, and it’s also super fun.
Even if you’ve never been ski-ing before, you can still have a great time. Instructors will show you how to do all the basics in just a few minutes, and before you know it you’ll both be flying down the slopes, pulling off all kinds of twists, turns and crazy stunts.
Don’t forget the selfies before enjoying a warm coffee afterwards.
Who said winter can’t be fun?!
Go Out For Dinner
It’s too cold to do anything else outdoors, so after you’ve walked around the city for a bit, why not treat yourselves to dinner at a posh restaurant? You can eat the warmest broth they’ve got while heating your stomach with some tip top wine. Lovely.
Just Go For Beers
Beer gardens are made for the summer time, but there are some pubs that are best enjoyed during the winter.
You know the kind: A crackling fire, a few real ales, and the smell of winter broth wafting in from the kitchen while the snow begins to fall outside. It’s so romantic.
In case you can’t agree on a snowball fight, ice skating or skiing, why not go sledding instead? Just find some hills nearby, take a sled board and off you both go!
You could finish off by building a snowman together (really romantic and it involves teamwork, which is always great for a first date), before heading into the town for some well-deserved hot chocolate.
