A teenager has died after accidentally shooting himself in the head while playing with a gun live on Instagram.
Malachi Hemphill, 13, accidentally killed himself in his bedroom at his family home in Atlanta, Georgia.
The footage shows his mother and sister discovering him collapsed on the floor before they cut the feed.
His mother, Shaniqua, told 11alive.com: ‘To find your 13-year-old son on the floor with a gunshot in his head, that’s something you just never forget. You never forget the image.’
She added: ‘The hardest part of today was when the man asked me what colour casket that I wanted to put my 13-year-old son in.’
Malachi had taken the rubbish out of his Atlanta, Georgia, home before playing with the handgun in his bedroom.
After the gunshot went off his mother and sister ran to the room to discover him in a pool of blood.
The room had been locked and the two women had to break the door down only to find the 13-year-old in a pool of his own blood.
Up to 50 friends who live close to his home and had been watching rushed to his house after witnessing the incident while Malachi was taken to the Grady Memorial Hospital.
Shaniqua is now asking parents to keep a keen eye on their children’s internet activities after she was unable to even tell the police what Malachi’s Instagram name had been.
Ernest Stephens, Malachi’s step-father, told Khou11.com: ‘It can happen to the best parents. It can happen to the best people.
‘The best ones that loved their kids, you know? I just always let them know about situations and decisions.’
