If you’ve ever experienced acid reflux, you know it is uncomfortable and disgusting. Don’t go out to buy medications to treat acid reflux, because there are plenty of home remedies you can do to get rid of it.
At the entrance of the stomach is a valve which is a ring of muscle called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). The LES normally closes as soon as food passes through it. If it doesn’t close all the way or if it opens too often, acid produced by the stomach can move up into the esophagus. This can cause symptoms like burning chest pain that is usually called heartburn.
A common cause of acid reflux is the stomach abnormality which is called hiatal hernia. Hiatal hernias occur when the upper stomach and LES move the diaphragm. The diaphragm keeps the acid in the stomach, normally. But if you have hiatal hernia, acid can move up into the esophagus and cause symptoms of acid reflux.
