The prizes of the second round 4th edition 8100 A SMS lottery found their way to their winners at an event held Thursday on the premises of the National Council for the Coordination of Public Participation for the construction of the Grand Renaissance Dam. It was also announced that a new paper lotto game to raise funds for the construction the GRD would be launched soon.
Constable Girma Gedaa from Meqi, Oromia State, won the first prize 900,000 Birr worth modern car, while the second prize, a tractor, went to Abraham Kidane from Shire, Tigray State.
Speaking to a jubilant crowd, Constable Girma said that he used to play the lotto with other people phone before he got his own, and added he will continue to do so to support the flagship project.
A machine operator from Bahir Dar, Amhara State, won the three-legged Bajaj, while other prizes which included a motorcycle, seven laptops, five TV sets, two refrigerators and a purifier all make their way to their respective winners.
Coordination Office Director Roman Gebreselassie said that the lottery game not only raises fund for the construction of the dam, but also gives every individual the chance to be part of a historic undertaking.
Moreover, she said that in addition to the bond sale, 8100A SMS lotto game and other related fund-raising schemes, preparations have been finalized to launch a new paper lotto game. “On top of its obvious merits, it gives the option to those people that have difficulty to send in 8100 A SMS message”, she added.
