Amir Khan has become the highest-paid I’m A Celebrity star in the show’s 15-year history – despite claiming to have never watched it before in his life.
The Olympic boxing champion, who admitted to a healthy fear of snakes before his first Bushtucker Trial, is reported to have signed up for nearly £400,000 – giving him an insane hourly rate of £793 if he stays in for the full three weeks.
He’ll get the full amount even if he gets voted out early on.
That means he’ll be raking in £13 for each minute he spends cleaning out the dunny, building the fire or screaming in gibbering fear at harmless Australian snakes.
A source told the Sun: “Amir was a great get, but he came at a hefty cost. He’s going to be the best paid celeb they’ve ever had.
“There have been rumours of huge sums being paid to the celebrities but they’re often highly exaggerated.”
Katie Price – who went on the show in two different seasons – was said to have picked up around the same amount as Amir, but the boxer’s fee is slightly higher than hers.
The insider added that Amir’s bankability rests on the headlines he’s hit in recent months thanks to his high-profile divorce and reconciliation with pregnant wife Faryal Makhdoom .
“He has plenty to gain in improving his public image – but he also wasn’t doing it for peanuts. ITV have dug deep,” the source added.
Amir has already done his best to turn the public’s perception of him around, after miserably failing his first Bushtucker trial..
His second was much more successful: he managed to get all 10 stars.
As he was immersed in a tank of water, gradually filling up with more and more creatures, he smashed through his trial.
But when he came back to the camp to tell them how he did, he exaggerated just a bit.
Amir told them: “I dropped the number seven key right to the bottom, and had just 60 seconds to go.
“I put my hands in and there were spiders, eels, snakes…”
All the campmates were shocked, exclaiming: “SNAKES?!”
And he confirmed there were, showing off about conquering his fears.
But I’m A Celeb viewers were quick to point out there were absolutely no snakes in his task.
One said: ” Amir Khan is so irritating to watch. Does he not realise the entire nation is watching him what’s the point in going back to camp and blatantly lying about what just happened?!”
Another added: “Never known such an exaggerating lying p***k. F**k off, Amir!”
A third shared: “What a lying p***k amir Khan is lool there was no spiders or snakes and he had more than a minute left on the clock..what a t**t (sic).”
