Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has reportedly been sent numerous messages from Barcelona “heavyweights” in an attempt to lure him to the Camp Nou, per Didac Peyret for Sport.
It is said that many of the senior players are on board with a bid to land the forward and have been using the social networking app WhatsApp to tell Griezmann to “come to Barca!”
Barcelona’s interest in the France international has long been acknowledged, with the Blaugrana reportedly ready to put the heat on over the coming months to secure a deal, per Francesc J. Gimeno for Sport.
However, they have reportedly agreed to hold off on approaching the Frenchman until he makes a decision on whether to leave.
They might not have to wait long. Griezmann reportedly wants a decision made before the World Cup begins so that the transfer saga does not overshadow France’s campaign.
Atletico are ready to make him their highest-earning player on £300,000 per week, per John Cross for the Mirror, but that promise might not be enough to convince him to stay.
Atletico are 11 points behind Barcelona in La Liga and crashed out of the Champions League group stages, with Griezmann netting 26 times in all competitions. But Barca aren’t necessarily the only club interested in ending the 27-year-old’s stay in Madrid.
Manchester United have been interested in his services for some time, although Griezmann has reportedly snubbed Jose Mourinho in favour of a big-money move to Barca, per Mike McGrath for The Sun.
If Griezmann is considering Barca, the persistent contact from the club’s senior players may hasten the France forward’s departure from Atletico.
