CCTV Captures Driver Running Away After Hitting Mother And Newborn Baby

Detectives hope this CCTV footage will help them find a driver who allegedly hit a mum and her four-day-old baby before fleeing.

The 28-year-old woman is fighting for her life after the incident, which happened at 6pm on Saturday in Birmingham.

Witnesses claimed a man jumped out of his blue Mazda and ran away after crashing into the woman and pram as she crossed the A34 Walsall Road in Great Barr.

The baby was checked over by doctors but was well enough to be discharged.

West Midlands Police said the driver is still at large having fled the scene on foot.

CCTV footage from people’s homes shows a man wearing a white t-shirt, grey tracksuit bottoms and trainers jogging down a road.

Officers believe the man in the video to be the driver of the car.

Detective sergeant Paul Hughes said: ‘This investigation is in its early stages and we are trying to establish exactly what happened.
