Chelsea expect to complete a deal for Olivier Giroud in the next 48 hours after reportedly agreeing a £15million fee with Arsenal.
The Gunners have agreed to sign Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the Gabon international’s arrival is set to push Giroud even further down the pecking order.
The Bundesliga giants want Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi to replace Aubameyang and won’t let the Gabonese move to the Emirates without getting a replacement.
Antonio Conte is happy for Batshuayi to leave provided Giroud replaces him and Arsenal are aware that allowing the Frenchman to move to Stamford Bridge will set off a chain of events that will get Aubameyang to the club.
Giroud, 30, is concerned he will be left out of France’s World Cup squad if he remains at Arsenal and is keen on a move across London to get regular first-team football.
Chelsea were keen on a move for Roma striker Edin Dzeko but pulled the plug on a move after baulking at the Bosnian’s wage demands.
That set the Blues onto Giroud and, despite Arsenal preferring to sell abroad, the Gunners have agreed to let him join Chelsea for just £15m, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
That’s roughly half of what the Gunners value Giroud at and speaks volumes for the club’s desperation to get a deal over the line for Aubameyang.
