As if we need any further proof that Luis Fonsi’s Latino earworm was the song of 2017, it has just swept the board at the Latin Grammy awards in Las Vegas.
The song took best song of the year, best record of the year, best urban album fusion/performance and best short form video.
“Viva Puerto Rico,” said Luis on stage at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
“This award is for everyone and especially for those not necessarily recognized during these awards such as the engineers.”
“It’s been a beautiful year. Twelve or 11 months of hard work representing our language in the entire world and enjoying a song that, thanks to Latin audiences and many beyond, has become so influential and has united the entire world and broken language barriers,” he told reporters.
Rubén Blades caused something of an upset, winning album of the year for Salsa Big Band.
“I feel bad when one person wins,” he said during an emotional acceptance speech:”You don’t want people to lose.”
Vicente Garcia won best new artist.
Meanwhile, Luis has another reason to celebrate as just hours after winning his awards, he shared the new video for Echame La Culpa, a collaboration with Demi Lovato.
