eBay appear to have started to make post purchase contact easier for buyers by displaying a seller’s telephone number on the mobile app after a purchase has been made.
The seller’s phone number was spotted by Laura of Selling On eBay UK but I’ve not seen it on any purchases on my eBay Android App so we don’t know how often it appears.
It would appear likely that the phone number is being pulled from the information you specify to manage your buyers questions so if you haven’t specified it yet then we’d highly recommend that you do so.
If displaying the seller’s telephone number becomes more commonplace after the sale, then this is likely to be welcomed by sellers who need contact with their buyers either for custom made items or for large and heavy goods that need a specific delivery slot pre-arranged when the buyer will definitely be home. However as it still relies on eBay displaying the number and then the buyer noticing it, the display still isn’t quite as convenient as having contact details in listings.
A phone number also doesn’t solve the problem for sellers who need buyers to send images via email for printing. eBay (and indeed Amazon UK) both need more robust processes in place to enable trade in personalised items.
