Some fathers and sons bond over a beer while watching their favorite football team score against a huge rival. Well, this father and son took family bonding a step further and shared a major milestone together: graduating from college!
Stanley Timmons and his son, Brandon Johnson, graduated with honors recently from Claflin University, a historically black college (HBCU) in South Carolina. Timmons never planned on going to college, but Johnson’s acceptance into the school encouraged him to further his own education – at 40 years old! It just goes to show you that it’s never too late to make changes to better your life!
Both father and son thank the other for pushing them to succeed. Timmons said that “Going back to school and seeing him study, making good grades…pushed me to make good grades and to keep on moving, so I can graduate.” Johnson said that his father “was the one who…kept me focused and in my books and doing what I needed to do.” How sweet is that?
Johnson graduated with a degree in Political Science, while his father graduated with a Criminal Justice degree. Johnson will intern in Washington, DC, then continue his education at Norfolk University. Timmons is taking full advantage of his Criminal Justice degree and starting a career with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Congrats to both father & son!
