INCREDIBLE! This World Map Shows The Countries Where Women Outnumber Men

Overall, the number of men and women in the world is almost the same. To be more precise, there are an average of 101.8 men per 100 women in the world, according to data collected by the United Nations.

However, when looking at this data at the national level, there are huge differences between the number of women and the number of men in a given country, according to research by the US consulting firm  Pew Research Center.

What can we learn from these statistics?

  • In the northern part of Africa, including Algeria, Libya and Egypt, there are more men than women, with the exception of Morocco and Tunisia, where women are more numerous.
  • Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Chad and Sudan are countries where men outnumber women.
  • Senegal, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Benin and Togo, women dominate in numbers.
  • In Africa, countries with the most women are proportionally Rwanda and Namibia.
  • In Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Guinea, Cameroon, DRC and Gabon, there are more men than women.
  • Globally, Martinique is the country of the world, there is proportionally more women. The countries of the former Soviet Union such as Russia, Lithuania and Latvia are predominantly female. The reasons are partly historical: during the second world war, many men died in combat. Alcoholism among men is another reason cited by the Pew Research Center.
  • In contrast, the United Arab Emirates are the geographic area where, proportionally, there are fewer women in the world. The same goes for India and China, where men outnumber women.
