It looks like Will Smith – yes, actual Will Smith – will be providing the official 2018 World Cup song.
The movie and rap icon will reportedly collaborate with Nicky Jam and Kosovo singer Era Istrefi to sing the official anthem for this summer’s FIFA event in Russia.
The news was first reported by Vibe, with sources reportedly confirming to Billboard that it was going ahead.
Will Smith has since posted an Instagram picture of himself with Nicky Jam, also tagging Diplo and Istrefi, and writing: “One Life to Live. Live it Up. #WorldCup”.
While this seems like a dead cert, Digital Spy has reached out to Smith’s representatives for comment just in case.
Nicky Jam’s manager Juan Diego Medina also claimed in an interview with W Radio that the pair were in Budapest putting the final touches on the song, which will reportedly be released on Friday (May 25).
Previous years have seen the likes of Shakira and Ricky Martin sing World Cup anthems, so he would be in great company.
Still, it would be really awesome if the Fresh Prince can get DJ Jazzy Jeff involved. What would be more perfect that a ‘Summertime’ 2018 mix?
Meanwhile, Will recently revealed that he was “broke” before landing his iconic role as the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
“I had spent all my money, and I didn’t forget, but I didn’t pay the IRS,” Will said as part of Storytime. “In my mind, I wasn’t trying to avoid paying taxes. I was just like, ‘Ah damn, they need their money’.”
The IRS ended up taking his stuff and he subsequently went “broke”, the star joking that “being famous and broke is a shitty combination”.
