Pep Guardiola is considering bolstering his defensive ranks with a January move for Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez.
Manchester City have long been linked with the 26-year-old Spaniard but a transfer in the summer failed to materialise.
However, scouts have been keeping a close eye on his performances this season and the club could renew their interest when the window reopens in the New Year.
According to The Sun, Guardiola is a long-term admirer of the Spain international and is very keen on bringing him to the Premier League.
The Spanish tactician is on the lookout for a new central defender following the injury to John Stones, with the defender set to miss six weeks of action.
And, with Vincent Kompany also struggling for fitness in recent years, City may look to add fresh faces in their bid for silverware this season.
Martinez certainly fits the bill, with the versatile defender also able to play at left back — another problem position at the Etihad.
Guardiola has been forced to play Fabian Delph down the left in recent months following the long-term injury suffered by Benjamin Mendy.
Mendy, who ruptured the cruciate ligament in his right knee back in September, isn’t expected to return to action this season and Martinez’s arrival will give City added cover.
