Fans of Nicki Minaj are probably aware of how passionate she is about her fans staying in school. She’s very dedicated to education and encourages her fans to work hard. But when one fan decided to jokingly ask for her to pay his tuition, he didn’t expect she would actually do it.
Nicki had tweeted about a contest in which the winner would join her at the Billboard Music Awards and was bragging slightly that she had the funds to fly a fan from anywhere in the world to the show.
That’s when Twitter user @cjbydesign decided to get brave, and ‘jokingly’ asked if Nicki would pay his tuition.
Keep on reading to see how she reacted.
Although Nicki had originally been tweeting about a contest in which a fan would get to accompany her to a show, it quickly turned into something else.
Nicki replied to @cjbydesign and opened up the challenge saying that if fans can prove they’re making A’s, she would help them with whatever financial problems they were having.
It almost seems too good to be true, right? That’s when tweets from bright students began pouring in, and she actually responded to a number of them!
Obviously, Nicki doesn’t have the funds to send all of her fans to school, but there were a lucky few whom she hand-selected to help out.
Nicki took her passion for her fans’ education one step further with this ‘contest.’ She took the time to get to know each person’s situation and negotiated with their needs.
Although she had originally extended the offer to A students, she eventually gave a little leeway.
Students of all ages were accepted, from a 17 year old looking into summer courses to a student who had already graduated but was dealing with student loans.
I can only imagine how many lives she changed with one simple retweet. Most of these students probably tweeted her going in with low expectations.
Left and right Minaj was agreeing to help out students in need. All they had to do was DM her their bank information and she was on it.
Of course, she would double check with the school and go over the student’s information to make sure everything lined up.
Unfortunately, Nicki is no longer writing cheques to students in need. Even extremely rich celebrities have to budget. However, she did hint that she might come back for a second round in a few months!
68% of students graduate with some form of debt or loan balance and the average student loan debt in the U.S is over $30,000 as of 2015. It’s inspiring how passionate Nicki is about her fans and their wellbeing.
