President Obama Declares National Appreciation Day For Teachers

Now, therefore, I, Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 3, 2016, as National Teacher Appreciation Day and May 1 through May 7, 2016, as National Teacher Appreciation Week. I call upon students, parents, and all Americans to recognize the hard work and dedication of our Nation’s teachers and to observe this day and this week by supporting teachers through appropriate activities, events, and programs.

And lots of businesses are joining in to honor the hardworking educators in our country.

For instance, on May 3, from 3 p.m. – close, teachers, faculty and staff can bring in their school ID to any Chipotle in the U.S. and get a BOGO (buy one, get one) burrito, bowl, salad or order of tacos.

There are some other places to grab a discount on food. Educators should check with their local McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A establishments to find out what they’re doing.

And just in case you’re an educator who can’t get out tomorrow, keep in mind that many national chains offer discounts to teachers all year round! That list includes: Apple Education Store, Barnes and Noble, Half Price Books, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn Fabrics, and  Michael’s . Just head to their websites, since many of them ask that teachers sign up for the programs ahead of time, or to bring in a valid ID when they shop.

On the fashionable side of things, Banana Republic, J. Crew, The Limited, LOFT andMadewell also offer special discounts for teachers.

To all the teachers out there: thank you! Enjoy your day!!
