Primetime Emmy Awards 2016: Everything You Need to Know About This Month’s Must-see Ceremony

The Primetime Emmy Awards is one of the most prestigious nights of the year for television.

The 68th edition returns to LA’s Microsoft Theatre on September 18 – broadcasting live here at midnight UK time – and it is set to be a dazzling night to remember, especially for British stars.

Together, Benedict Cumberbatch, Idris Elba, Kit Harrington, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman and newly-single Tom Hiddlestone are all flying the flag for British talent.

Game of Thrones has received the most nominations for this year’s ceremony, and will go head-to-head with Downton Abbey for outstanding drama series.

The Sky Atlantic fantasy received 23 nominations, edging out The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story which earned 22 nominations.

What time do the Emmys start?

The ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 18 – at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

You can follow all the action live on Mirror Online, while the show itself will be broadcast on Monday.

Who is hosting?

This year’s host is handsome talk-show anchor Jimmy Kimmel, who himself is nominated for Variety Talk Series.

Not that this is his first time in the job, of course – he previously hosted the bash in 2012.
