The Portuguese coach has been hotly tipped as a possible successor for Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford should the Dutchman leave the club at the end of the season.
Van Gaal has found his position to be under constant scrutiny in recent months following his side’s stuttering form, and Mourinho has long been linked with United since his sacking by Chelsea back in December.
Now, German newspaper Bild is reporting that Mourinho has officially agreed a deal to take over at Old Trafford this summer.
The same report says that the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss has signed a contract until 2019 with the Premier League club and will take over at the end of the season.
Despite the speculation, there has been no official word from United about Van Gaal’s future at the club, with the Dutchman’s contract set to expire at the end of next season.
