Roger Federer Surprised By Rafael Nadal’s Win In The China Open

There really is just no stopping Rafael Nadal this season.

The world number one earned his sixth title of 2017 on Sunday as he cruised to a 6-2 6-1 victory over Nick Kyrgios in the final of the China Open.

Kyrgios cut a typically frustrated figure as he suffered the straight sets defeat, but it really shouldn’t have come as that much of a surprise to him.

I hope the Laver Cup will keep going – Nadal
Nadal has already won the French Open and the US Open this summer and remarkably, he looks to be in the form of his life at the age of 31.

All this from a man who was supposedly finished a few years ago because persistent injuries had evidently taken their toll on his body.

don’t expect to see him go all the way in Beijing – for the simple reason that he thought he would have to pull out amid such a gruelling season.

“It’s nice to see him keeping going,” Federer said in the run-up to the Shanghai Masters first round, per the Express.

NADAL COULD HAVE RESTED

“This [the China Open] is a really big win for him.

“So for him to go to Beijing and win it right away… I expected him to pull out, to be honest.

“Why not? And come here to Shanghai. Or maybe just skip Asia totally. You know, why not?

There is no reason for him to push it too hard, but that’s Rafa.”

Nadal will be in action yet again on Wednesday when he takes on American Jared Donaldson.

With a 2,370-point lead at the top of the ATP world rankings, his place is already pretty assured regardless of how he fares in Shanghai.
