The 26-year-old model died in a car accident while she was dating the actor and failed to reach out to her family until now
Scott Eastwood has reached out to the father of his late girlfriend Jewel Brangman for the first time since her tragic death in a car accident in 2014.
Speaking about the loss in a recent issue of GQ Australia, the 30-year-old model turned actor revealed that despite nearly two years passing, he was yet to speak to Jewel’s dad about the death of his beloved girlfriend.
According to People magazine though, Eastwood made the emotional call to Alexander Brangman, 61 earlier this week in which he apologised for his behaviour immediately after her death.
The single father and law professor admitted that it was a difficult chat for both of them, as he had been hurt by Scott’s silence after Jewel’s death especially as he failed to attend the celebration of her life or even send flowers.
“Quite frankly, I was hurt by it,” he said.
“I was disappointed he didn’t come to her celebration of life,” Alexander explained. “Many people were actually disappointed. Many of her friends flew across the country to pay their respects and condolences. There wasn’t even a flower sent.”
Eastwood reportedly apologised to Alexander for his silence and said he hadn’t reached out because he “didn’t know what to say”.
He also apologised for speaking about the death without first getting consent for Jewel’s father.
Admitting he had chosen to forgive Scott, he claimed: “I was angry – but everybody grieves differently. You know, he’s a kid, too. I didn’t know what his grieving process is – I’d like to get to know more of what he went through. Because that’s a difficult thing.”
“Maybe he didn’t know how to grieve, and in some ways, I could have helped him,” Alexander wonders. “Or could still help him.”
The pair reportedly agreed to meet in the future to build bridges and discuss their grief.
Jewel was killed while driving in Los Angeles on September 7, 2014. The model, 26, had a small fender-bender causing the defective airbag in her rental car to inflate with too much force, sending metal shrapnel flying into her neck.
The couple dated for two years before her death after meeting at a restaurant in San Diego.
Explaining why he hadn’t been in touch with his late girlfriend’s father during his chat with GQ, the Suicide Squad star said: “I still haven’t found the right words.”
