A suspected rapist who had ball bearings implanted into his penis so women ‘remembered him’ was arrested after he fled police custody.

The suspect, also wanted for robbery offences, became known as the “ball bearing rapist” after steel balls were inserted beneath the skin of his genitals.

The man, reported to be an Indonesian immigrant, had three bearings placed into his penis and had been using the toilet when he managed to squeeze through a small window after taking off his shirt.

He had been remanded in custody while being investigated for rape and robbery allegations.

The fugitive went on the run for 17 hours before he was recaptured some 20 kilometres (12.4 miles) from the Klang Utara police headquarters in Selangor State, Western Malaysia, where he had been detained earlier.

The unnamed man had been wearing cuffs as well, but had found an accomplice who was able to break them off shortly before he was found.

Police said that while he was on the run, he also tried to stage another robbery and rape a woman, who managed to escape.

He was caught when people in his village recognised him and realised he was supposed to be in custody, and they raised the alarm.
