Trump Backs Away From His Own Abortion Comments

Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump appears to be backing away from comments he made about abortion.

During an interview with MSNBC yesterday, Trump said there has to be some form of punishment for women who terminate pregnancies.

“People in certain parts of the Republican party would say yes they should be punished. I would say it’s a very serious problem and it’s a problem we have to decide on.”

Less than an hour after making the remarks, Trump issued a written statement saying that such a ban would criminalise only those performing the procedure and not the women getting abortions.

Trump’s comments have sparked controversy in the United States where abortion is legal, but under vigorous attack from conservatives.

Trump was yesterday accused of using the argument technique of a five-year-old during CNN’s Republican town hall event.

The news channel’s Anderson Cooper asked Trump to explain why he shared a photograph of his own wife next to that of his rival Rafael Edward ‘Ted’ Cruz.

Cooper asked Trump about a tweet he sent with the unflattering picture of Heidi Cruz compared to a more flattering image of his own wife.

Trump’s response was, “I didn’t start it.”

The following exchange then followed.
