Move over, Pizza Rat, there’s a new rodent in town – and this one can shower.
Lathering up and scrubbing itself down, the incredible little creature was caught on camera in Huaraz city, Peru.
And it seems determined to rid itself of the ‘filthy’ tag that wild rats are normally branded with.
The bizarre video, reportedly taken in a bathroom sink, shows the rat standing up on its hind legs and washing his armpits using soapy water.
The clip, which was uploaded online two days ago, has already racked up more than 37 million views.
Electronic DJ Jose Correa, who claims he filmed the video, said he was about to take a shower when he spotted the unusual sight on Saturday morning – and couldn’t believe his eyes.
Jose, 36, said: ‘He was just like a human, I’ve never seen anything like it.
‘It went on for about 30 seconds, and then he ran off. I think he just wanted to give himself a good clean.
‘I care a lot about animals so I wanted to protect his privacy.
‘I would never want to hurt him. So I just filmed him and let him go.’
Jose said he is astounded the video went viral so quickly.
He added: ‘I never expected it would be this popular. I can’t believe it.’
The squeaky-clean rodent is the latest of his kind to become a viral sensation, following in the footsteps of Pizza Rat and Selfie Rat.
