A woman who forced children to stand naked outside, threw them across the room in a sick ‘game’ and even made one eat his own vomit has been jailed for four years.
Sandra Clayton, 70, shoved soiled clothes into the kids’ mouths and forced one of them to drink bleach.
The 70-year-old, from Brightlingsea, Essex, admitted three offences of child neglect dating back to the 1970s at Ipswich Crown Court.
Michael Crimp, prosecuting, said the woman abused three children she was supposed to be looking after. None of the children were related to her.
The court heard how Clayton played a game called ‘swingies’, which involved her swinging the petrified youngsters round the room by an arm and a leg and then let them go, causing them to hit either a wall or furniture.
One boy suffered a cut to his chin which required hospital treatment and stitches after hitting a bench.
Another time he had an ugly swelling on his head after smashing into a radiator pipe.
Clayton made two of the children sleep without covers when it was freezing and made them stand naked outside in a coal shed, the court was told.
Mr Crimp said she had also attacked them by punching them and cut one boy on the back of the leg with a knife and also forced a boy to drink bleach and smacked one on the site of a previous injury.
Furthermore, she fed a gluten-rich diet to a child she knew to be gluten intolerant and forced him to eat his vomit.
Folashade Abiodun, defending, said Clayton ‘regretted her behaviour’ and was now a different person.
She said she was ‘devastated’ about her brutality and apologised to her victims.
