Bad Weather: Buses Cancelled, Schools Closed As Storm Emma Hits Manchester

Drivers are being warned to only travel if essential on Friday morning as Storm Emma hits the region.

Winds of 80mph are forecast and there could be more snow showers throughout the day.

Temperatures are also set to remain below freezing – meaning the enormous amount of snow which has fallen on parts of Bury, Rochdale, Oldham and Tameside is not going anywhere.

Yellow weather warnings of wind, snow and ice remain in place on Friday.

Many Pennine roads are expected to remain shut first thing – with police urging motorists to not use the M62.

Train, bus and Metrolink services are set to be disrupted again.

Dozens of schools have announced they will be closed – with many more set to confirm they will be closed first thing.

A GMP spokesperson said: “The weather isn’t expected to improve and we ask you don’t travel this morning unless it is essential – particularly those wanting to head on the M62.”
