Black Panther Surpasses Wonder Woman At The US Box-Office

Black Panther has been breaking records around the world, having the second-highest opening weekend at the US box-office, only behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Edging ahead of Suicide Squad and X-Men: Days of Future Past at the international box office

After 12 days of release, Black Panther has already passed fellow superhero blockbuster Wonder Woman in North America, taking $421.8 million compared to the Gal Godot-led movie’s $412.6 million. That makes the Ryan Coogler-directed flick the 20th highest-grossing film in the US, and only $1 million behind the 19th spot entry, The Lion King.

Internationally, Black Panther remains behind Wonder Woman’s $821.9 million, at $748.1 million. However, that’s ahead of Suicide Squad ($746.8 million) and X-Men: Days of Future Past ($747.9 million), according to Variety.

Outside of the US box office, the UK remains the leading market, helping the movie climb to $43.1 million, followed by South Korea with $37.6 million. Chances are, though, Black Panther will surpass the $1 billion mark within the next few weeks, opening in Japan today (1 March) and China on the 9 March.

Whether Black Panther will stay the biggest film of 2018 remains to be seen: Avengers: Infinity War – which features Black Panther, along with fellow superheroes Iron Man, Captain America, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, and a million others — is predicted to steal that title away.
