British police said they had made an arrest on Saturday after a “serious incident” that left one man with stab injuries in the northern English town of Barnsley. According to the police; “one man had suffered minor injuries after reports of a stabbing in the town centre”.
They said several crime scenes had been established and there would be a highly-visible police presence until police had established what happened.
In a later statement, it said: Officers were called at around 8:20 am (0720 GMT) “following reports that a man had been stabbed in Barnsley town centre”.
“Police then received many further reports of an individual in the town centre with a knife,” it said.
“One person has been arrested in connection with the incident and is in police custody.
“One man suffered minor injuries. No other injuries have been reported at this time.”
“An investigation is now underway and in its early stages to prove whether this is an isolated incident and whether the person acted alone,” it added.
According to Yeni Safak Report: “One person has been arrested in connection with the incident and is now in police custody,” South Yorkshire police said in a statement.
“An investigation is now under way … to prove whether this is an isolated incident and whether the person acted alone.”
Police who had described the incident as serious urged the public to stay vigilant and appealed for witnesses.
