Omar the maine coon isn’t an average puss. He is twice as big as the dog he lives with, and he is crushingly heavy when he reclines on the chest of a human.
This cat weighs 14kg – the average cat weighs between 3.5 and 4.5kg – and his favourite food is raw kangaroo meat.
The massive animal went viral after being featured on the Cats of Instagram account, which has over 8 million followers.
She is now going to send in his measurements for official verification, but is sure he is the longest.
The current record is held by a UK maine coon measuring 118.33 centimetres – but Ms Hirst has measured Omar and he comes in at 120cm.
It seems he is about to be named the longest cat in the world..
“We thought he might be (the longest cat in the world) but we hadn’t done anything about it because he might not be fully grown yet,” Ms Hirst said.
Ms Hirst and partner Rowan Lawrence adopted Omar as a kitten.
She said: “Rowan always wanted a big cat,
“(Omar) was tiny when we got him but then he just started growing and was 10kg at one year old”.
On a typical day, Omar wakes to a breakfast of kibble and naps outside on the trampoline.
He lazes around the house and on his humans, and enjoys raw kangaroo for dinner.
“He sleeps on the couch … because he takes up too much room on the bed and he demands we cuddle and pet him all through the night,” she said.
“But he is really good at opening doors, sliding doors, kitchen cupboards, shower doors, wardrobes, he’ll get past all of them.
“He just likes to be able to go wherever he pleases so he will do whatever to find a way.”
