Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather Will Happen – Dana White

Mayweather, 41, began teasing a move to the mixed martial arts world earlier this year, much to the shock of his legion of fans.

His hints, which came in the form of videos on his Instagram page, invariably led to talk of a rematch with Conor McGregor, who he beat in a boxing match last August.

The former five-weight world champion boxer has continued to suggest that he will try his hand at MMA, leading many to assume he’ll sign with the UFC in the near future.

And according to White, Mayweather will join mixed martial arts’ premier promotion.

“There’s a reason he’s even talking about it. Because the money is right,” the UFC chief said. “It’s going to happen.

One stumbling block for Mayweather’s aspirations is his relationship with Showtime Sports’ Stephen Espinoza, a man White loathes.

He added: “I got a curveball a minute ago. They told me the slimy little weasel, (Espinoza) they want him involved in it. I don’t like that. That’ll be a huge obstacle.

“I can’t stomach working with that slimy little rat.”

Many in the MMA world believe Mayweather joining the UFC makes a rematch with McGregor and inevitability.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan doesn’t foresee the fight happening, recently saying: “I don’t think he’s going to do it. “I don’t think he’s ever going to fight McGregor in MMA.

“But I think he might fight CM Punk. I believe that. I believe that could happen. That’s not even like official talk. But I really believe that could happen.

“It sounds crazy, I know. But the whole thing sounds crazy. It sounds crazy to think that he could fight anybody in MMA. That he’d be willing to do it.

“He must know something because he could – just go into boxing.

“He must know his time as a boxer is just done.”

McGregor, 29, hasn’t set foot inside the Octagon since his historic UFC 205 victory over Eddie Alvarez, a triumph which saw him become the promotion’s first simultaneous two-weight world champion.

His first fight back in the promotion could very well see him take on Khabib Nurmagomedov, the new UFC lightweight champion.

However, it’s unlikely that fight will come to fruition anytime soon as McGregor is awaiting punishment for his actions at the UFC 223 media day, where he threw a dolley through the window of a bus carrying Nurmagomedov and his fellow fighters.
