Cristiano Ronaldo ‘Vetoed Zlatan Ibrahimovic Joining Real Madrid’ – Report

Why did Zlatan Ibrahimovic not join Real Madrid over the summer amid reported interest from the Spanish giants?

Well, according to the Spanish press, Cristiano Ronaldo is the reason.

Spanish outlet Diario Gol reports that Ronaldo ‘has blocked many deals from happening’, the most high profile of which was Ibrahimovic.

The Swede was apparently lined up to arrive at the Bernabeu over the summer, but for the intervention of Ronaldo who ‘vetoed his potential arrival’.

As a result, the 36-year-old subsequently rejoined United and is set to return to action in December.

According to Diario Gol, Ronaldo also scuppered Real moves for the following big-name players:

  • Edinson Cavani
  • Kylian Mbappe
  • Robert Lewandowski
  • Arturo Vidal

Quite a list of rejected stars, if the report is to be believed.

Do we believe the report? Frankly, no. Regardless of Ronaldo’s apparent power at the Bernabeu, we do not think his influence stretches quite this far.
