On Friday according to a local media said the death toll of the capsize of a passenger ferry in Tanzania’s Lake Victoria has risen to 86.
According to the local media, on Thursday night the ferry MV Nyerere was traveling between Ukara and Bugolora and capsized near the Tanzanian city of Mwanza. Mwanza regional commissioner John Mongella said that 42 people had been rescued.
Noting the death toll would likely rise, Mongella said the number of people on board was not known. Overcrowded and neglected ferries often cause such accidents in the region.
