Ed Sheeran Insists He Will Definitely Wear A Helmet Next Time He Cycles

When Ed Sheeran broke his arm after falling off his bicycle two months ago, he apparently didn’t even realise the severity of his injuries. In fact, he revealed to Ellen DeGeneres that he just carried on on his way to the pub with his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn.

The 26-year-old singer-songwriter explained on ‘The Ellen Show’ that he and Cherry were cycling to a pub in Suffolk on one of his two days off between shooting the video for ‘Perfect’ and going on tour when the accident happened.

‘I stayed at my girlfriend’s parents’ house and we both got our bicycles and we cycled to the pub’, he said. ‘I was going down a hill and I braked, fell off, hit both arms, but then was like, ‘It’s my only day off, I’m going to the pub’. So I cycled to the pub, drank with all my mates and cycled home. Then in the morning I was in so much pain that I drove myself to the hospital and they were like, ‘You can’t drive back’.’

He explains that he broke his wrist, his elbow and his rib, but thought at the time that he was just suffering some bad bruising. ‘I’m quite a clumsy person so I thought I was over-reacting’, he added. ‘I was like, ‘The pain will go’. And then it didn’t go.”

It was ironic in some respects that he injured himself doing something so ordinary, when he had just been skiing in Austria for the ‘Perfect’ video. ‘I can’t ski so if any time you’re gonna break your arms I’d assume it’s gonna be then’, he joked.

He also admitted (sort of) that he wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of his accident, but insists ‘I will be wearing one from now on’. Especially since he was almost totally dependent on his girlfriend for at least a month. ‘Once the elbow got movement it was kind of alright but I couldn’t cut my own food, wash, open doors’, he explained.

Ed was forced to reschedule a few of his Asia tour dates due to not being able to play guitar, but now he’s back on the road and healing well.
