Halitosis is the medical name for bad breath. It is a disease suffered by some individuals and this could be very embarrassing, just like body odour.
Research shows that 90% of bad breath causes, come from the mouth. If you don’t brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once, you should start by doing this and see if your problem is resolved. It’s also important that you brush your tongue, especially in the back, since most of the bacteria that produces bad breath is gathered there.
If your problem doesn’t get resolved by brushing, flossing and stopping to smoke, you could be suffering from one of these diseases and it’s important that you visit your dentist and ask him/her to check for one of these causes:
- Cavities (Dental Caries)
- Gum Disease
- Yeast Infection
- Xerostomia (Dry Mouth)
To say in the least, bad breath could also stem from a low carb- diet, because when on a protein diet for too long, the body burns fat for energy and this in turn, causes a production of ketones which results into halitosis. Watch your diet, therefore and your lifestyle.
