If Donald Trump’s support Boris Johnson it will be bitter blow to Theresa May

US president and Boris Johnson share more than just a shock of white-blond hair and a propensity for outrageous language. Both are natural showmen who appear to relish going against traditional party rules.
Today Trump effectively threw his weight behind Boris Johnson, who has been a constant thorn in the side of Theresa May over Brexit. Theresa May appears out in the cold with the close relationship between Donald Trump and Boris Johnson.
Many eventually expect the former Foreign Secretary to challenge Mrs May for the top job and it appears he now has the blessing of Trump. BoJo, apparently, has ‘got what it takes’ to be Prime Minister. ‘I was very saddened to see he was leaving government and I hope he goes back in at some point. ‘I think he is a great representative for your country. Protesters take to streets across the UK as Donald Trump makes his visit ‘I am just saying I think he would be a great Prime Minister.
I think he’s got what it takes, Trump told the Sun. Johnson resigned last week following the Brexit blue-print, which he said would reduce the UK to a colony of the EU. May has attempted a ‘softer Brexit’ amid pressure from business leaders to allow an element of free trade between the UK and the bloc. May had hoped to be able to make up for any loss of European trade with a new deal with the US. However, Trump essentially supported Johnson by claiming May’s current Brexit plan is incompatible with a US trade deal. Boris Johnson and Donald Trump at a meeting in Brussels last September.
If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the UK, so it will probably kill the deal.
A trade deal with the US is the jewel in the crown for supporters of Brexit, with improved access to massive American markets one of the most tangible possible benefits of leaving the EU. He has essentially trashed her premiership – and endorsed her rival – with his explosive words.
