Dublin has been named one of the top places in the world to visit in 2018 by National Geographic alongside the likes of Sydney, Phnom Penh and Vienna.

Selected as one of 21 destinations, the entries were decided by a panel of travel experts, journalists and explorers.

The magazine described the Republic of Ireland’s capital as ‘Europe’s largest village’ that ‘exudes a friendly, village vibe’ and – despite it being home to 1.2 million people – they’re not wrong .

Dublin is large but walkable with the city focusing around the Georgian centre. Rugged and romantic, it’s bursting at the seams with iconic landmarks, world famous pubs and a unique culture you won’t find anywhere else.

Only just over an hours flight from most places in the UK, it also makes for excellent weekend break material.

People can tour the Guinness factories, visit Trinity College’s famous library where the likes of Oscar Wilde studied, listen to live bands on almost every street and of course, come March, celebrate St Patrick’s Day at some of the world’s biggest parties.
