Real Madrid Footballer Pays €1mn To Avoid Imprisonment


Real Madrid (Spain) midfielder Luka Modrić has avoided the prison sentence he was facing for tax evasion.

In November 2017, the Madrid prosecutor’s office filed a criminal case against the Croatian footballer for not paying €870,000 in taxes, between 2013 and 2014.

Spanish authorities had received information that Modrić had made financial investments in the Isle of Man, but he had not submitted the relevant documents.

According to Mundo Deportivo sports newspaper of Spain, the Croatian international plead guilty and paid €1 million to avoid imprisonment.
Modrić, 32, plays at Real since 2012.
