Revealed; Jeremy Renner Broke His Hands When Filming ‘Tag’

The news hit headlines back in July 2017, but Jon Hamm recently sat down on The Ellen Show to reveal that, not only did production continue, but CGI was used to replace Renner’s arm casts in the final film.

He’s sprinted around shooting arrows as Hawkeye in Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, assisted Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation, and stepped in for Matt Damon in The Bourne Legacy.

But it was only a few days into filming Tag – the comedy about a group of friends who play an elaborate, annual version of the game – that Renner managed to end up with two broken arms.

The actor described how Renner broke both his arms on the third day of production with, as Hamm described, “40 more days to go” to complete the film.

“Keep in mind, this is a man who’s done a hundred Avengers movies and been fine,” he joked. “And he does a movie about playing tag… both arms, like firewood. Just snapped like a matchstick.”

In order to keep filming, he said: “He wore green screen casts that we eventually painted out in the edit… he is a hardworking man.”
