Some weirdo has bought a pair of Adolf Hitler’s underpants for £5,000.
Bill Panagopoulos, the auctioneer, has assured those concerned that ruled out selling the pants to a neo-Nazi as soon as he got them.

The buyer has remained anonymous, but what we do know is that they are based in the US.
Bill, who owns Alexander Historical Auctions in Chesapeake City, Maryland, said: ‘People tend to either buy fearsome Hitler memorabilia, or things that make him look like a buffoon, such as this. To minimise a monster, you make people laugh at him.
‘We’ve sold underwear belonging to Eva Braun before, but never any belonging to Hitler himself. I think this is the first pair to come to market.’
The 58-year-old said the ‘surprisingly large’ drawers are a 39in waist, and are monogrammed with the initials ‘A.H.’
The pants were apparently left behind in the luxury Parkhotel Graz in Austria after the genocidal dictator stayed there in April 1938, less than a month before the Nazis annexed the country.
They would likely have been sent to the hotel’s laundry department, then returned after Hitler and his entourage had checked out.
The seller was the grandson of the people who owned the hotel at the time.
‘They were retained in the family who owned the hotel, which is very prestigious, for almost 80 years, and when we got them they were wrapped in tissue paper in a box,’ Bill said.
‘They were as clean as if they had just come back from the cleaners.’
Bill reckons the buyer will frame the pants and put them up in his house: ‘It would be the most talked-about relic in the house.’
