Yemen On Edge As Exiled President Orders Advance On Sanaa

Yemen’s capital is on edge a day after former President Ali Abdullah Saleh was killed by Houthi rebels.

Hours after his killing, Yemen’s exiled leader, President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, ordered his troops to advance on Sanaa, as heavy fighting continued in the capital.

Overnight, Saudi-led air strikes targeted the presidential palace in Houthi-controlled Sanaa for the first time since the conflict started in 2015.

His funeral is expected to begin shortly in Sanaa. The Houthis are also expected to hold a victory parade for killing the man who went from ally to enemy.

And as Saleh’s supporters demand revenge, the international community is calling for calm – including the UN – which wants a pause in fighting to deliver aid.
